New 7/19 This 1821 B-2 Capped Bust Quarter shows amazingly clean surfaces for a well circulated piece of this time period. The patina is a pleasing light brown with hints of grey, the obverse and reverse detail is quite good for the grade. . The 1821 shows a business strike mintage of 216,851 with 6 varieties known. The Greysheet lists the B-2 variety as an R-5, which is defined as having a population of 31-75. The B-2 obverse is with a divided 18 21 date with the second 1 low. The seventh star points downward to the cap. This obverse die was also was used on B-1. The reverse is the same as used on the the 1820 B-1. The left scoll end is about even with the D’s extreme left, the right end about even with the extreme right of the A. The C is quite high and much nearer the stem than the border. Bust quarter variety enthusiasts will certainly recognize the presented buying opportunity. Choice.
