Description
This 1843 Seated half is easily identified as WB-101, WB-1 by the dramatic late die state die crack that starts at the rim and runs through HALF DO(L) on the reverse. The variety is rated R2 and attribution is made easy as this is the only use of Reverse A that displays this feature. In addition to the die crack, all die states exhibit interesting criss-crossing between the bottom of the shield and the arrow’s upper feather. The reverse exhibits just a bit of remaining luster, a nice touch to this piece. Oh yes, this is Obverse 1 with diagnostic die cracks from the rim at 7 o’clock to the rock pedestal above date numeral 1, and from the pedestal below the foot to the rim. Consistent greyish surfaces with just a hint of luster. Very minor reverse rim hit above the O in OF is noted. Very nice in-hand. The holder has a light scratch above stars 1-4, Original.
